HR Advisor

As HR Advisor, you will be a key member of the Human Resources (HR) Team, providing HR expertise and guidance to business leaders and their associates to drive high engagement, performance, and alignment to Pet Paradise’s core values. You will manage employee relations issues, develop, and administer policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws, and conduct research and analysis on workforce trends and programs to support a high growth and innovative culture. The HR Advisor will possess excellent HR technical knowledge, communication skills and sound judgement to serve as an effective counselor for associates and leaders, while serving as a strong cultural steward for the organization.

You will partner closely with other members of the HR team but also be able to work independently, with strong organization and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions of the HR Advisor include:

  • Develop effective relationships with regional and resort leadership team to support, coach, and develop associates on HR policies and procedures. 
  • Partner with regional and resort leadership to develop and administer policies and programs that allow associates to increase performance and engagement.

  • Act as a consultant to regional and resort leadership with associate progressive discipline process/employee relations issues and provide support on corrective action to ensure proper procedures and documentation are followed.

  • Manage employee investigations for assigned regions, and partner with HR Director/Legal to review and approve terminations and assess risk associated with investigations; exercise care that reasons are well documented per company policy and are not arbitrary or discriminatory.

  • Partner with leaders on annual talent reviews and succession planning. Identify readiness and assist in implementation of development plans and determine talent gaps.

  • Support performance review process, open enrollment, life events and ongoing benefits questions as needed.

  • Deliver training on HR policies and leadership development.

  • Assist in administering annual engagement surveys and coach and partner with resort leadership to effectively execute action plans to foster and increase employee engagement.

  • Conduct exit and check-in interviews with resort leaders; share feedback and trends with regional leaders.

  • Support associate help desk inquiries and leave administration in partnership with benefits team.

  • Analyze location turnover and other key HR/business metrics as needed. Partner with regional and resort leadership on retention initiatives.

  • Conduct Headquarters’ New Hire Orientation Program.

  • Create new hire welcome communications and support HR communications on company intranet.

  • Maintain human resource information system records and compile reports from the database as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual HR reports for follow through and action; Analyze and interpret HR metrics and recommend solutions to improve workplace trends.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years relevant experience in an HR Generalist role. Multi-state hospitality, Manufacturing or retail industry preferred.
  • Prior experience in an HR consultative role with internal or external clients/business units.
  • PHR or SHRM CP certification preferred.
  • Experience with HR tools such as applicant tracking, on-boarding, benefit enrollment and learning management systems.
  • Ability to travel as needed (approximately 20% of travel across resort locations).
  • Initiative-taker that thrives in an extremely fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that displays professionalism and confidence.
  • Ability to deliver live and webinar training sessions/presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent people skills, including leadership, influencing, and relationship-building across functions.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with HRIS systems and ability to compile reports.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as compliance policies and employment laws and regulations. Ability to review routine reports, draft correspondence and deliver training and presentations.  Ability to speak effectively before leaders, associates and external vendors.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize human resources information systems (HRIS) and reporting tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role will be an individual contributor but will work collaboratively with members of the human resources and payroll teams as well as other business and shared services leaders.
