Director of HR, Talent Management and Development

The Director of HR, Talent Management and Development (TM&D), serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and managers and fosters a culture of engagement, performance and alignment to the company’s core values. The role oversees employee relations, policy, performance management, learning and talent development programs throughout the organization. This individual must possess extensive HR technical knowledge, strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and sound judgement to serve as an effective counselor and coach, while exhibiting model leadership for the TM&D team. The Director of HR, TM&D, will be a positive, influential and high-integrity leader, adept at building relationships and supporting the people strategy for a high-growth, multi-state company with fair and consistent policies and practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop effective relationships as an HR business partner with regional, resort, veterinary and headquarters leaders to support talent assessment, performance, recruitment and development
  • Manage employee relations, investigations, counseling, disciplinary actions and terminations
  • Develop and oversee talent development programs for leadership skills and career advancement
  • Develop and enforce employee handbook and related HR policies and procedures
  • Deliver training on HR policies and processes
  • Support annual performance review process and help optimize reward and recognition programs
  • Analyze location turnover, wage reports and other key HR/business metrics as needed; partner with regional and resort leadership on retention initiatives (such as fair and competitive compensation, training and communications)
  • Manage annual talent reviews and succession planning; identify leadership readiness and assist in implementation of development plans and determine talent gaps
  • Administer engagement surveys and other feedback tools to drive employee performance and engagement and partner with senior leaders on action planning
  • Participate in interview panel for all Resort Managers
  • Conduct exit and check-in interviews with leaders
  • Oversee headquarters’ new hire orientation program
  • Support employee communications
  • Analyze and interpret HR metrics and recommend solutions to improve workplace trends.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Ensure annual EE01 compliance/Affirmative Action planning.
  • Serve as primary administrator on ethics hotline.

 Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years relevant experience in an HR generalist and/or employee relations role and 5 years in a leadership role. Multi-state hospitality or retail industry preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR certification or SHRM CP or SCP certification a plus.
  • Coaching and training/development certifications a plus.
  • Experience with HR information systems such as applicant tracking, on-boarding, benefit enrollment and learning management systems.
  • Ability to travel as needed (approximately 20% of travel across resort locations).
  • Initiative-taker that thrives in an extremely fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that displays professionalism and confidence.
  • Ability to deliver live and webinar training sessions/presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent people skills, including leadership, influencing, and relationship-building across functions.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to compile reports, analyze employee data and deliver presentations.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree; at least seven years of HR experience and five years in a leadership role.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before candidates, hiring managers and external vendors.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

A general understanding of Microsoft Office and Windows XP is required.

Certificates and Licenses:

HR certifications (SHRM/SPHR) are preferred.

Special Skills:

Technical skills with HR systems

Vendor management

Strong organizational and communication skills

Strong ability to prioritize and multi-task, work with minimal supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Will direct the HR Advisor, Sr. Manager of Training and Learning and HR Coordinator.
